Welcome to mr squirrel's nursery

Mr Squirrel's, pre school day nursery for children aged 3 to 5 years, first opened its doors in 1991. Since then, our attractive cottage premises have provided the perfect setting for hundreds of children to learn through play.

Traditional on the outside, spacious yet homely within, our nursery features an open plan playroom flooded with natural light from the skylights above. Cottage windows provide a child-sized vantage point for watching the changing of the seasons, whilst safety glass patio doors allow direct access to our mature gardens all year round.

Our aims at the nursery are:

To work in partnership with parents and to see each child in the context of his or her family and as belonging to a culture of equality, fairness and inclusion.

To develop the staff to their full professional potential with a commitment to staff development and self evaluation. The nursery leader is commited to working in Local Authority working groups to influence and learn from the wider 'Children and Families' community.

To  work with the local community  and within the wider global context to promote good citizenship with each other as well as supporting our environment by reusing, recycling and reducing waste.

To increase awareness, good practice and communication among our staff and the multi-disciplinary agencies involved
in the preschool years, in the community and in primary schools.

To create a stimulating environment to realise each child’s learning potential.

To work in partnership with children and parents in their learning journey through creative learning and teaching strategies to support the children.

To meet all aspects of the curriculum as detailed in the Curriculum for Excellence.

To meet and exceed the requirements of a quality educational service as outlined by the Scottish Government and City of Edinburgh Council.

To fulfil the potential of our indoor and outdoor environments.

To provide a balance of care and education that meets, and often exceeds, the standards set by the Care Commission.
